Critical Access Hospital Grant Supports Emergency Medical Services The Washington State Department of Health Office of Rural Health has provided a grant to assist Garfield County Hospital in the recruitment and retention of Emergency Medical Volunteers. A table top display has appeared at many local events and District meetings throughout the past few months. "This is a wonderful contribution to our efforts to attract and retain more volunteers." said Sue Nelson, EMT and president of the Garfield County EMS Council. Garfield County has always had an exceptional history of volunteer support from the community. The EMS system remains exceptionally strong despite the need for additional volunteers particularly on week-day shifts.
At this date the effort has been successful in attracting five new volunteers that will take EMT training in January. There is still time to participate and a limited number of scholarships are available for individuals who are willing to make this important commitment to serve their community.
