Town Hall Meeting

The following are un-edited comments from participants in a town hall meeting held to discuss our community vision for improvements to long-term care.  The discussion focused on a vision for developing a resident centered environment of care that reflects the warmth and charm of home.

 

What is special

·        we treat residents like they are own family

·        anyone who visits feels welcome

·        we are more meaningful and are able to get to know residents personally

·        small and close-knit

·        this is more like a group home not a nursing home

·        Residents without family still feel loved by people here.

·        Loyalty

·        Respect for each other

·        Helping one another

·        Generosity

·        Smallness

·        Loyalty

·        Balance

 

 

·        Spend more time outside if there was enough staff

·        Need more volunteers

·        More eye contact and spend more time talking to someone

·        Better efficiency in workflow

·        Have computer system for the residents(for pictures and letters)

·        No more white and uniforms

·        Having residents that can garden, knit, cook, artwork

·        Creating raised gardens that way wheelchairs can garden also

·        Daily/simple kitchens

·        Simple kitchen-stove, refrigerator, good flour, grater

·        More space to be able to move around and have a chair like you would have in your own bedroom. 

·        Would like to have decorations in the residents room

·        Possibly being able to have a fan or own electrical blankets

·        Cleanliness

·        Blooming house plants

·        Gazebo

·        Font porch- flowers, bench, hanging plants, smells, sounds of the birds, swings

·        Tomcats

·        Appreciating that doesn’t smell like a nursing home

·        Comfortable chair

·        Kitchen, need a working one

·        Magnets and pictures on refrigerator

·        Well stocked refrigerator

·        Food on counter, or homemade cookies

·        Pets, dog cats etc.

·        Have an person aid to help with cooking

·        Having lower counter so that way everyone can be involved with wheelchairs or walkers

·        Being able to eat when you want to eat

·        Would like a dishwasher, washer, dryer, garbage disposal

·        Canisters for sugar, flour , coffee

·        Would like to have larger showers with the same sex person to assist

·        Would like personalized towels, big fluffy

·        Personal affects, makeup, magazines, perfume

·        Reachable sinks, and be able to turn faucets on

·        Lights over mirrors that are in the bathroom

·        Full body mirrors for bathroom

·        Able to have own detergent, fabric softener counter to fold iron hangers

·        Larger closets

·        More efficient heating and air-conditioning

·        Perfect temperature no more nose

·        Would like all new blinds, curtains

·        Comfortable furniture

·        Fireplace

·        Where are we going to put everything, pie in the sky

·        Many of the ideas can already be done with the space we have

·        Don’t overdue things

·        Be thrifty

·        Turn the lights out

·        Carpet for bedroom

·        How do we keep carpet clean

·        Pleasant sounds, water, gospel, ice water, tomcats tearing up davenport, children laughing and crying, music playing, soothing music

·        Color in the bedroom no stale white

·        Soft pillows, feather

·        TV in bedroom

·        Reading lamp

·        Warm light in the bedroom

·        Shelves for stuff

·        Good bed with headboard

·        Candles, plants

·        Desk area for writing, reading,

·        Radio for bedroom

·        Place for privacy, for grieving, finding family

·        Family gathering place for visiting or family dinners

·        Kitchen table for cards, games

·        Activity room where you can leave your crafts out

·        Privacy independence, individuality

·        Everyone needs to help

·        Don’t want to pile up “stuff”

·        Patients that cant speak for them selves need dignity shouldn’t have staff members going into the hall and yelling “bedpan” etc.

·        Would like better offices for Barbara and Claudia more space
